The National Basketball League (LNB) was launched in December 2008. The League gathered the main leaders and representatives teams of Brazilian basketball aiming placing basketball as the second most popular sport in Brazil, just behind soccer.
Based on most modern and well succeed world´s sport management concept, the League brings to the country the consecrated NBA´s idea: an independent league managed by their own teams.
The League is formed by 18 associated teams who compete for the Brazilian adult male championship, the NBB. The NBB is organized by League´s teams in partner with Rede Globo and the seal of Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CBB).
Altogether, seven Brazilian states, plus the Federal District, are represented in NBB by the following teams:

The LNB is also responsible for the organization of two different basketball competitions, beyond the NBB: the Torneio Interligas Brasíl/Argentina and the Olympic Development League (LDO).
The Torneio Interligas is a tournament formed by the union of Brazilian League (LNB) and the Argentine Basketball Association (Asociación de Clubes de Basquetbol), and was created on March 12, 2010. The competition brings altogether the four best clubs of each league and unite.
The Olympic Development League (LDO) was launched in 2011 targeting to be a high level national competion for athletes less than 21 years old who can represent Brazil in Olympic Games at Rio de Janeiro, 2016. The first edition was competed by 16 teams and gave an unique experience for Brazilian basketball young talented players.
